Hear BLACKPINK’s Rosé cover Coldplay’s ‘Viva la Vida’ for ‘Pachinko’ season two
BLACKPINK‘s Rosé has covered Coldplay‘s 2008 hit ‘Viva la Vida’ for the trailer of Pachinko season two.
Today (July 23), Apple TV+ released the official trailer for season two of its hit K-drama series, Pachinko, which will premiere on August 23. The video is notably soundtracked by an unreleased cover of Coldplay’s ‘Viva la Vida’ by BLACKPINK singer Rosé.
As opposed to the orchestral and anthemic sound of Coldplay’s original, Rosé’s rendition is darker and more atmospheric. Snippets of the K-pop star’s vocals are heard throughout the trailer, including the lines “I used to rule the world” and “Who would ever want to be king?”
Rosé’s cover of ‘Viva la Vida’ comes just a month after she signed with The Black Label, headed by BLACKPINK’s longtime producer Teddy Park. The label is also home to other K-pop artists such as Jeon Somi, Big Bang singer Taeyang, producer and DJ R. Tee, among others.
Last month, the BLACKPINK singer also teased that new music is coming in the “not-too-distant future” in an Instagram post. The singer had also revealed that she has “been in and out of the studio almost every single day” from the end of 2023 and all throughout 2024.
Earlier this year, Rosé previewed a solo song called ‘vampirehollie’ in celebration of her 27th birthday. At the time, the K-pop star said: “I know I’ve been away for a minute, but I’ve been working really hard on some things that I’m really excited about.”
As of writing, ‘vampirehollie’ has yet to be released. Rosé’s last solo release was her 2021 debut single album ‘R’, which featured the songs ‘On the Ground’ and ‘Gone’.
