South Korean singer HyunA has confirmed plans to marry controversial K-pop idol Yong Jun-hyung this October.
Earlier today (July 8), South Korean news outlet YTN reported that the HyunA and Yong Jun-hyung will be getting married on October 11. The two agencies of the two K-pop stars, AT AREA and Black Made respectively, have since confirmed the report in press statements to media.
“HyunA and Yong Jun-hyung will hold their wedding ceremony in October with close acquaintances and begin a new chapter in their lives,” AT AREA told The Korea Times. “HyunA accepted Yong Jun-hyung’s proposal. They have been a great comfort to each other in difficult moments.”
“We would like to thank everyone for their warm gaze and support. We ask for fans’ blessing for HyunA’s future as she has made this significant decision, both as an artist and as an individual,” the agency added.
Meanwhile, Yong’s label Black Made said: “We would appreciate warm interest and blessings for Yong Junhyung as he embarks on a new chapter of his life as a married couple [with HyunA].”
The couple first went public with their this January after they shared photos of themselves holding hands on a beach on Instagram. Both singers faced significant backlash after the announcement, with HyunA losing over 200,000 Instagram followers in the weeks following.
HyunA faced backlash for entering a relationship with Yong despite his involvement in the 2019 Burning Sun scandal. Last month, Yong released a statement regarding the scandal, alleging that the videos sent to him had blacked-out thumbnails without descriptions, and that he “had no way to know what it was or what the intention was” before opening them.
Last month, HyunA announced her 2024 ‘My Attitude’ tour in North America. Set to kick off in August, she will be performing across cities in Texas, New York, California and more.
