Ice Cube Gives Another Promising ‘Last Friday’ Update: ‘Yeah, It’s Coming Back’

Earlier this year, Ice Cube gave a positive update about the fourth installment of his Friday film series, telling Flavor Flav that he and Warner Bros. were “working on it” and that they “finally got some traction” during an appearance on the Public Enemy hypeman’s SiriusXM show.

The West Coast rapper and filmmaker is now back with another update, and he sounds more confident than before. While appearing on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast with former rapper Gillie Da Kid and motivational speaker Wallo, the cousins out of Philly asked Cube if the fan-favorite franchise was coming back. “Yeah, it’s coming back,” he answered. “We gonna do what we need to make it dope, make it funny, bring it up to date, introduce new characters, bring back the old characters, create the feeling the movie gives you.”

He added: “People love Friday because everyone experienced it. People love Friday because everybody’s lived Friday. Hanging out with their homies, with their friends, with their cousins trying to figure out what they’re gonna do today, just trippin’ off the neighborhood. It’s so relatable in that way because everyone has lived a thousand Fridays.”

Things weren’t always looking up for Last Friday, though. In 2022, while sitting down with Mike Tyson on his Hotboxin’ podcast, Cube seemed indifferent about working with the film studio.  “I don’t know. Warner Bros. is weird right now. I don’t know what they’re doing, they don’t know what they’re doing,” he said at the time.

The last installment of the franchise was 2002’s Friday After Next.
