Indiana Jones boss “super interested” in more games after ‘The Great Circle’ success
Indiana Jones owners LucasFilm have said it would be “super interesting” to create more games after the success of The Great Circle.
The Great Circle launched on Monday (December 9) and has been praised by fans and critics alike. The “god-tier” game currently has a Metacritic score of 87 per cent, has racked up thousands of players on Steam and many more on Xbox and PC, via Game Pass. A PlayStation version of the game is also due early next year.
Developer MachineGames is also currently working on a DLC called The Order Of The Giants, which will reportedly expand the early story of the main game and release at some point in 2025.
Lucasfilm Games vice president and general manager Douglas Reilly spoke to Variety about the future of the Indiana Jones franchise. “Right now, we’re focused on getting this one to the public and getting to the DLC and making this as successful as we can. I think we’re always looking for great stories. And the good news is, there’s a lot of space in between the films where we could tell more and more Indiana Jones stories that I think would be super interesting.”
Indiana Jones And The Great Circle is set between 1981’s Raiders Of The Lost Ark and 1989’s The Last Crusade. Speaking about whether the events of the game [which see Indy trying to stop the mysterious power of The Great Circle from falling into the hands of fascist governments on the brink of World War 2] are canon, Reilly said: “So canon is such a complicated concept. It is an authentic story set between the two movies of Raiders and The Last Crusade. We work closely with the studio and franchise management. So yes, it is meant to be an authentic Indiana Jones experience, in that sense.”
Legendary video game actor Troy Baker plays Indiana Jones in The Great Circle. “There’s so much history going into this. There’s so much expectation,” he told NME recently. “I had to unburden myself from that pretty quickly. If I had stayed underneath the weight of that legacy, I’d never have been able to do it.”
It comes after 2023’s Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny saw Harrison Ford play the archaeologist for the final time.
In other news, thousands of Fortnite players are owed a refund for buying unwanted ingame skins, according to a ruling from the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) who have set aside $72million for the payments.
