Iron Throne replica from ‘Game Of Thrones’ fetches $1.49million at auction

A replica of the Iron Throne from HBO‘s hit fantasy series Game Of Thrones has fetched a whopping US$1.49million at an auction – find out more below.

On October 12, a plastic replica of the coveted Iron Throne was sold at a Game Of Thrones auction hosted by Heritage Auctions. According to reports from CBS News, it sold for a jaw-dropping US$1.4million, equating to around £1,070,930.

On the official Heritage Auctions site, the replica is dubbed a “touring” Iron Throne, and “was crafted exclusively for promotional events and tours, such as Comic-Con, Hollywood premieres, and the Game of Thrones Touring Exhibition, which visited major cities worldwide, including New York, London, Paris, Madrid, Berlin and Sydney.”

According to CBS News, the Iron Throne replica was sold after a six-minute bidding war. Other items auctioned off included hundreds of costumes, props and set decorations used in the show, all of which raked in a total of over $21million across 4,500 bidders.

Other items that fetched high price tags included Longclaw – the signature sword wielded by Kit Harington’s character Jon Snow – and capes, cloaks and dresses worn by the cast. Longclaw fetched $400,000, while Snow’s cape sold for $337,500.

In other Game Of Thrones news, Kit Harington recently reflected on the final season, admitting that he thinks “there were mistakes made, story-wise, towards the end maybe. I think there were some interesting choices that didn’t quite work.”

Harington isn’t the only Game Of Thrones cast member to speak out on the show’s ending, with Arya Stark actress Maisie Williams suggesting back in 2022 that the series “fell off at the end”. However, the year before, Daenerys Targaryen star Emilia Clarke said that she “only sees [the ending] with peace”.

Creator George RR Martin addressed the backlash in 2022, telling The Independent: “I don’t understand how people can come to hate so much something that they once loved. If you don’t like a show, don’t watch it! How has everything become so toxic?”

Since the show ended, the Game Of Thrones universe has continued in prequel series House Of The Dragon, which recently wrapped up its second season. Last last week it was confirmed that the show would conclude with its fourth season.

HBO is also prepping a new spin-off called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, which is due in 2025, as well as a separate show called 10,000 Ships.
