It looks like Scissor Sisters are teasing their return, as well as some potential UK shows.

The New York pop-rock band haven’t released an album since they went on an indefinite hiatus after 2012’s ‘Magic Hour‘. Since then, they haven’t performed together, although they briefly reunited to share a charity single ‘Swerlk’ – in collaboration with electronic singer MNDR – in 2017.

Now though, it seems they might be coming back. Earlier today, the band changed their Facebook and Instagram profile pictures to an image of TV static, prompting speculation that they may be teasing a highly-awaited return.

Then, their logo appeared on the side of Manchester’s Co-op Live arena, fuelling rumours that they may be announcing a UK tour.

Fans have since been reacting to the cryptic teasers, with one commenting on Facebook: “Um hello? Come back YES PLEASE THANK YOU VERY MUCH”, while another adds: “The world needs the Scissor Sisters now more than ever.”

Frontman Jake Shears has previously told NME: “I really want to make another Scissors record – I don’t know when that’s gonna be.” He went on to say: “I think everybody would need to want to do it. I don’t wanna twist anybody’s arm – that would just be no fun.” Shears also ruled out the idea of reuniting for a nostalgic anniversary tour, saying: “I don’t think I would be into that. I would want to make new music.”

In 2023, he also reflected on the band’s legacy and impact on a new generation of LGBTQ+ artists including Years & Years, Lil Nas X and Sam Smith, saying he hopes they “paved the way for other people.” “I knew there were certain things that were really hard, and there were moments when I remember thinking, ‘Just push through with this’, and I knew it was going to make things easier for others. Just as we stood on the shoulders of those who came before us, I knew at times, ‘This is not going to be as tough for the next person coming along’.”

Since Scissor Sisters went on a break, Shears has released two solo albums, his self-titled 2018 debut and 2022’s ‘Last Man Dancing‘. In a recent interview with NME, the singer shared that the latter LP is akin to the ultimate house party and the polar opposite to ‘Jake Shears’, which was written in the wake of a breakup with his partner of 11 years.

Outside of music, earlier this year, he launched his podcast Queer The Music with Self Esteem, Olly Alexander, Peaches and more. The podcast explores the LGBTQ+ anthems that have dominated dancefloors and helped shift politics, perception, and popular culture.

Prior to that, he joined the West End production of Cabaret which ran from September 2023 to this January.
