Jenna Ortega weighs in on Blur vs Oasis argument
Jenna Ortega has weighed in on the classic Blur vs Oasis argument after it was announced the Gallagher brothers would be reuniting.
Last week, Noel and Liam Gallagher announced they would be reuniting as Oasis for a series of massive summer stadium gigs across the UK and beyond.
Tickets went on sale on Saturday (August 31) with fans having to contend with technical issues and dynamic pricing, before every date of the tour sold out in a matter of hours.
However Jenna Ortega only found out about the reunion during a sit-down interview with NME to promote Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. “I had no idea they were back,” she said before asking her co-star Catherine O’Hara for her take on the classic Blur and Oasis rivalry.
“I don’t partake in taking sides,” she replied, with Ortega then asked for her pick of Britpop titans.
“Can I be honest? I actually just heard ‘Wonderwall’ for the first time a month ago,” she revealed. “I actually sat down and listened to the whole thing. It was a whole thing that I got attacked for not knowing about it by an ex. I listen to Blur. I haven’t really gotten into Oasis,” Ortega continued, choosing Blur. “I don’t really have a history with Oasis and Oasis listening to really say,” she added.
Oasis and Blur have a longstanding rivalry, with the two Britpop bands going head to head during a 1995 chart battle that saw Oasis’ ‘Roll With It’ and Blur’s ‘Country House’ both vying for the Number 1 spot in the UK Singles Chart. Blur went on to win that battle, but the band’s Alex James later said that Oasis won the war.
However in recent years, Noel Gallagher and Blur’s Damon Albarn have struck up an unlikely friendship, with the pair working together on Gorillaz 2017 track ‘We Got The Power’.
Elsewhere, Jenna Ortega has teamed up with Sabrina Carpenter for the music video for ‘Taste’, which is taken from Carpenter’s recent album ‘Short N’ Sweet’. This week, Oasis are up against Carpenter in another chart battle.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is due to hit cinemas September 6
