‘Jennifer’s Body’ sequel in the pipeline, says Amanda Seyfried

Jennifer's Body

Amanda Seyfried has hinted that a sequel to cult horror-comedy Jennifer’s Body could be in the works.

Released in 2009, and written by Oscar winner Diablo Cody (Juno), Seyfried played a nerdy highschooler whose cheerleader best friend (Megan Fox) becomes possessed. The film was not a financial or critical success, but has gained a cult following over time due to a reappraisal from fans and a Queer-friendly reading of the two leads’ friendship.

While attending the Toronto Film Festival for her upcoming project Seven Veils, Seyfried was filmed revealing that a sequel is being worked on.

“I think we’re making [a second] one,” she told fans while signing autographs. When asked if that was an official confirmation, she replied: “I didn’t confirm it… I said, ‘I think,’” before winking at the camera and saying: “We’re working on it. We’re working on it”.

Seyfried, Cody, and Fox have all expressed their love for the film over the years, as well as their enthusiasm to see a continuation. In 2021, Fox discussed the idea of rebooting it for TV.

“I don’t think it’s a hard movie to make a sequel to,” Fox told The Washington Post. “I mean, they should make it into a TV series. That would be cool”.

Reflecting on how her feelings about the film have changed over the years, the actor went on: “Jennifer’s Body is iconic, and I love that movie. This movie is art, but when it came out, nobody was saying that”.

In 2023, Seyfried gave an update about another of her hit films, Mamma Mia!, talking about whether there would be a third movie. “Nobody is saying no, but nobody is saying yes either,” Seyfried said. “The powers that be probably can’t afford us to be honest”.
