Jeremih Sells Music Assets to HarbourView Equity Partners
HarbourView Equity Partners continues to scoop up R&B/hip-hop music assets with its latest acquisition of certain publishing and recorded music assets from singer, songwriter and record producer Jeremih. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Jeremih’s Hot 100 hits include “Birthday Sex” (which peaked at No. 4 in 2009) and “Oui” (which peaked at No. 19 in 2016). His 2014 hit “Don’t Tell Em” featuring YG peaked at No. 6 and is RIAA certified five-times platinum, and his 2010 track “Down On Me” featuring 50 Cent hit No. 4.
Among his three album catalog, Jeremih’s 2009 album, Jeremih, is his top charting on the Billboard 200 chart, peaking at No. 6. His entire album catalog has accumulated 5.5 million album consumption units in the U.S. since his debut single, “Birthday Sex” in 2009.
“Jeremih’s hit songs including ‘Oui,’ ‘All The Time’ and ‘Don’t Tell Em’ experienced far reaching success, transcending global audiences and cultures and paved the way for a new generation of R&B artists,” said HarbourView Equity Partners CEO and founder Sherrese Clarke Soares in a statement.
HarbourView Equity’s other R&B/hip-hop music asset acquisitions include songs by Nelly, Wiz Khalifa and the publishing catalog of songwriting and production duo Andre Harris and Vidal Davis, better known as Dre & Vidal. And while the company has been among the first private equity firms to delve into the R&B/hip-hop music assets space, that is just one component of its overarching investment strategy of mining alternative assets. The investment firm focuses across the entire entertainment and media space, including music, film, TV and sports. Its music catalog spans numerous genres and eras, consisting of over 26,000 songs across master recording and publishing income streams.
For the Jeremih deal, Heidy Vaquerano and Cynthia Katz of Fox Rothschild LLP served as legal counsel to HarbourView in this transaction. Jeremih was represented by Guy Blake and Granderson Des Rochers.
