JT announces her first mixtape since City Girls split, ‘City Cinderella’
JT has revealed she will be releasing her debut mixtape ‘City Cinderella’ soon – her first since splitting from City Girls bandmate Yung Miami.
The Florida star has been teasing her first solo LP since March. Earlier this week, she shared the cover art and confirmed the release date in a post on Instagram. The artwork shows a naked JT – but her entire bottom half is made out of ice. A glass slipper can be seen left nearby and the rapper wore a crown on her head – alluding to the original tale of Cinderella.
“City Cinderella coming….7/19 [crown and ice cube emojis],” she wrote in the caption, “Pre-save link in bio. My hands shaking posting this. Juvies we here…”
SZA showed her support in the comments section, writing: “JATAVID over… his ARTWORK!!??? UR MIND UR WILLINGNESS TO PUSH THE ENVELOPE over and over.”
JT is best known for being a part of the rap duo City Girls alongside Yung Miami since 2017. They rose to fame with their raunchy style of rap and had multiple Billboard-charting singles such as ‘Twerk’ with Cardi B and their breakout hit ‘Act Up’ from their debut album, ‘Girl Code’.
They released ‘RAW’ last October, which was their final album as a two-piece before the group disbanded earlier this year. Recently, they both featured as solo artists on Camila Cabello’s newest album ‘C, XOXO’ on the song ‘Dade County Dreaming’.
In announcing their split, Miami told Complex: “I think when the City Girls album just dropped, and it didn’t do too well and we was just trying to do our press run, the whole rollout of the album was just so bad because we was just in two different spaces.
“You know, like, we older now and she was doing her own thing, she was on the west coast, I’m in Miami doing my own thing, and I felt like naturally, when she doing her own thing, it just work for her. And when I’m doing my own thing, it work for me.”
After being released from jail for credit card fraud in 2018, JT dropped her first-ever song by herself called ‘First Day Out’.
Five years later, she released her debut solo single ‘No Bars’ as the fourth preview for ‘RAW’, and it was popular on TikTok. She has since dropped two more songs this year without Yung Miami – ‘Sideways’ and ‘Okay’ – both of which also went viral on the platform. The latter two will feature on ‘City Cinderella’.
‘City Cinderella’ will be released on July 19 via Quality Control/Motown Records. You can pre-save the mixtape here.
In other news, JT has encouraged fans to share unofficial snippets of ‘Okay’ on TikTok after Universal Music Group removed all their artists’ music from the site earlier this year.
