Just give me my money explained: what is the TikTok trend and why is it so popular?

“Just give me my money” has been trending over the last few days after going viral on TikTok – but what is the trend and why is it so popular?

Over the last few days TikTok has been flooded with videos of groups of people taking part in the trend.

At one point – even actor Will Smith got involved. Check it out here.

What is the ‘just give me my money’ trend?

The latest trend to hit TikTok, ‘just give me my money’ is a lighthearted prank involving a group of friends.

People gather in small groups and each in the group repeat the phrase ‘just give me my money’ often in an accent or funny voice, delivering it with drama. Everyone in the group says the phrase and receives praise – plus an enthusiastic round of applause from everyone else.

Except – there is one person in the group who is pranked. After they say the line, everyone else shows an awkward response and doesn’t applaud, staying silent.

A few moments later, the unsuspecting member usually realises they have been pranked.

Where did the trend begin?

There’s a few possible suggestions where the trend could have emerged from. As per Indy100, some think that streamer Kai Cenat started it earlier this year during a broadcast with American rapper DreamDoll.

Others think it emerged from a scene in the 2002 movie Paid In Full.
