‘Kaiju No. 8’ season two release date confirmed and surprise movie announced
A second season of Kaiju No. 8 has been confirmed for 2025.
The breakout anime show by Naoya Matsumoto produced by Production I.G. debuted in April this year and follows the character Kafka Hibino, who after ingesting a parasitic creature, gains the ability to turn into a kaiju.
The show’s first season consisted of 12 episodes in total, with the finale airing on June 30.
Now, a teaser trailer for the forthcoming second season has been shared, which you can view below.
It has also been announced that Japanese cinemas will be airing a completely original episode of the show called Hoshina’s Day Off alongside a compilation film of the show’s first season.

No information about screenings in the west has yet been released.
The official synopsis of the first season read: “With the highest kaiju-emergence rates in the world, Japan is no stranger to attack by deadly monsters. Enter the Japan Defense Force, a military organisation tasked with the neutralisation of kaiju. Kafka Hibino, a kaiju-corpse cleanup man, has always dreamed of joining the force. But when he gets another shot at achieving his childhood dream, he undergoes an unexpected transformation. How can he fight kaiju now that he’s become one himself?!”
While details about Season 2 are scarce, Koki Uchiyama is set to join the cast of the show as Gen Harumi.
The show has gone on to be turned into novel, spawned two spin-off manga series and a video game.
Last month, over 15million copies of the manga were revealed to be in circulation.
