Katy Perry axes two Guadalajara shows over incomplete venue: “I wish I could fix this”
Katy Perry has announced the cancellation of two upcoming concerts in Guadalajara, Mexico – find out more below.
Yesterday (April 22), Arena Guadalajara, an upcoming arena in Mexico announced that a number of upcoming shows scheduled for the venue have been cancelled as the space will not be constructed in time. Among the concerts cancelled are Carlos Rivera’s and Intocable’s respective April 25 and 26 gigs, as well as Katy Perry’s May 1 and May 2 shows.
Perry then took to her Instagram Stories to confirm the cancellation, writing: “Sadly, I learned that the construction of Arena Guadalajara will not be complete for their scheduled shows next week, which includes mine on May 1 and 2.”
She continued: “Last week I sent my team to the Arena to make sure there wasn’t anything we could do to make this happening but it was evident when they arrived that the venue was not ready or safe to receive my show or an audience. I wish I could fix this but it is beyond my control.”
Perry also added that she is “thinking about how I can create something special for the fans in Guadalajara in the future,” but has yet to share any concrete plans.

Refunds for Perry’s Guadalajara shows have been issued to fans.
Katy Perry is due to kick off her North American trek tonight (April 23) with three shows in Mexico City, followed by two in Monterrey before she tours across the United States. Later in the year, she’ll hit the UK and Europe – see the full list of dates and get tickets here.
The cancellation of Perry’s Guadalajara shows come shortly after her highly criticised space flight earlier in the month. Perry was one member of the first all-female space mission in history.
During their voyage, Perry sang Louis Armstrong’s ‘What A Wonderful World’ and revealed the setlist for her upcoming ‘Lifetimes’ tour. She was later seen holding a daisy to the sky and kissing the ground upon returning from space.

The trip has sparked memes and controversy, and she has also garnered criticism from other celebrities for taking the space flight, with actress Olivia Munn branding Perry “gluttonous”, Emily Ratajkowski saying she was similarly “disgusted” by the space flight and Lily Allen calling the mission “out of touch”, saying there was “no fucking reason” for it.
The fast food chain Wendy’s also criticised the project, jokingly asking if they could “send Katy Perry back to space”. The quip appeared to be subtly endorsed by singer Kesha in a social media post.
Gayle King has since responded to the controversy and defended the flight, saying: “Have you been? Have you been? If you’ve been and you still feel that way after you come back, please let’s have a conversation. Number three, please don’t call it ‘a ride’, that is not a friggin’ ride. Whenever a man goes up, you have never said to an astronaut ‘boy what a ride’.”
