Katy Perry says she is “so proud” of Lady Gaga after attending concert in Mexico City

Katy Perry has said that she feels “so proud” of Lady Gaga, after attending one of the singer’s shows in Mexico.

The ‘E.T.’ singer was spotted by fans at the Estadio GNP Seguros venue in Mexico City this weekend (April 26), stood in the audience as Lady Gaga took to the stage to kick off the ‘Mayhem Ball’ world tour.

The gig took place just days after Perry also performed in the city, playing three sold-out dates at Arena CDMX last week as part of her own ‘Lifetimes’ tour.

As seen in fan footage, Perry watched the live spectacle alongside friend Lauren Glucksman and longtime co-songwriter Sarah Hudson, the latter of which helped her write songs on her latest album ‘143’, as well as hits like ‘Swish Swish’ and ‘Dark Horse’. She was also seen recording and dancing along to a number of Gaga’s tracks at the show.

Taking to social media after the gig, Perry shared her admiration for her pop peer, and explained how she felt “proud” to know the singer.

“Show was MAGINIFICA! The dress! The sand! Every moment was theee moment,” Perry wrote on Instagram Stories later that evening, sharing a photograph of Gaga on stage. “So proud of you and grateful to grow up together @ladygaga love u.”

Other updates included footage of herself dancing along to the performances, a clip of Gaga singing ‘Abracadabra’, and an image of the pop star on stage, reading a letter in Spanish from behind the Mexican flag.

The stop in Mexico marks Lady Gaga’s first Mexico shows in 13 years, and follows on from her huge slots headlining Coachella 2025. The 2025 dates come in celebration of her new album ‘MAYHEM’, and also include her first live shows in Singapore in over a decade, a monumental free show to over a million fans at Copacabana Beach in Rio, and global arena dates. In a four-star review of Gaga’s record, NME wrote: “There’s a nonchalant confidence in the way Gaga sticks to her maximalist vision without pandering to contemporary pop trends. Most ‘Mayhem’ tracks run close to or over four minutes, making them mini-epics in the TikTok era.

“Ultimately, ‘Mayhem’ feels like a great Gaga album because it’s just so much fun. At times, it’s a bit like reconnecting with an old friend who makes sense even when they seem to be chatting nonsense. Seventeen years after she broke through with ‘Just Dance’, Lady Gaga remains pop’s foremost agent of impeccably crafted chaos.”

For Perry, the appearance at the Lady Gaga show comes just days after she went viral for her interesting choice of choreography at her ‘Lifetimes’ shows, and just over a week since she returned from her controversial trip to space.

Later in the year, Katy Perry will bring her tour dates to the UK and Europe. You can see the full list of dates and get tickets here.

The tour’s commencement last week follows the singer announcing the cancellation of two shows in Guadalajara in May, as the venue they were meant to take place in will not be constructed in time.
