Speaking at an American Idol event in Los Angeles this week, Perry revealed that she has written “one of [her] biggest songs that has yet to come out” with the help of Congolese-Canadian singer Lu Kala.
“But it’s coming out,” she added, before telling Lu Kala: “Don’t say anything!”
Sharing the video on Instagram, Lu Kala wrote: “I was not expecting any of this, wow. Thank you @katyperry for letting me be the tiniest part of what you have coming. I can’t wait for the world to hear it.”

Perry released her sixth and most recent studio album, ‘Smile’, in 2020.
In a two-star review of the record, NME wrote: “As much as you want ‘Smile’ to be a return to form, her fifth album’s songs fail to grip. All in all, ‘Smile’ lacks the fireworks of Perry’s record-breaking years.”
Last December, it was reported that the pop star was gearing up to release her “most personal” material yet in 2024. It was said at the time that plans for a world tour were also underway.
Perry had previously hinted at her next album while on stage during her Las Vegas residency last summer. “If you can’t love me at my ‘Witness’ or ‘Smile’ era, then you can’t love me in my KP6 era,” she told the audience.
In an interview around that time, Perry explained that she had been “writing a lot” of new music.
“[I] have written a lot from a place of love because I’m feeling so much of it – so much unconditional love, that love you never knew existed,” she said, referring to her young daughter Daisy. “I’m always writing, I have been, but I think what’s really important to me is to be celebrating the world that I’ve got to build with all of these wonderful songs and to be responsible for a life for a three-year-old.”
Perry added: “I will be back, but let me get this right.”
Last September, the singer sold the rights to her music for a reported $225million (£180million).
