Keanu Reeves to make his Sonic video game debut as Shadow
Keanu Reeves is set to make his Sonic The Hedgehog video game debut later this year as Shadow.
Earlier this year, it was confirmed Reeves would be voicing Shadow in the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog 3 movie but now it’s been announced he’ll also be entering the Sonic video game universe.
Reeves’ take on the Sonic arch-rival will feature in a special, movie-inspired expansion pack for Sonic X Shadow Generations.
Sonic X Shadow Generations is due for release October 25 and features two games – a remastered take of 2011’s Sonic Generations and brand new adventure Shadow Generations which includes “never-before-seen abilities that prove why Shadow’s known as the Ultimate Life Form”.
Meanwhile the DLC is set for release December 12, a week before Sonic The Hedgehog 3 hits cinemas.
Speaking about the project, series producer, Shun Nakamura explained that it had been developed to satisfy “not just the Sonic game fans, but also those who see the movie and become fans of Sonic and Shadow for the first time.”
“But of course, we didn’t expect to have Shadow from the movie included in this game, as the world for the movie and game are different – we thought that it would be challenging to do so,” he continued. “However, we saw an almost festival-like opportunity where we have the movie and game being launched almost at the same time. We decided to pursue it and work on movie-related content with development starting last Autumn.”
Working with Keanu Reeves was reportedly an “incredibly secretive process,” according to Nakamura. “When we started to implement the voice in the game, we actually weren’t told who this voice is so when we received the recorded voice files, we listened to it and felt, is this that actor..?”
Keanu Reeves previously voiced Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, which also featured his fellow Sonic star Idris Elba.
In other news, Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that a new expansion is coming for Alan Wake 2 later this year and fans are convinced The Lake House DLC will set up a Control sequel.
