Keke Palmer reflects on ex’s outfit-shaming now they’ve broken up: “I was just at a concert”
Keke Palmer has reflected on the time her ex-partner, Darius Jackson, outfit shamed her.
In July 2023, Jackson made a comment about Palmer’s outfit at an Usher concert. At the time she was wearing a black bodysuit underneath a sheer polka-dot cover-up.
On X/Twitter, Jackson later wrote: “It’s the outfit tho… you a mom.”
Before deleting his social media accounts, Jackson responded to the online backlash from the post by saying: “We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is. This is my family & my representation. I have standards & morals to what I believe. I rest my case.”
Later that year, they split up “primarily due to the physical and emotional abuse” she claimed she experienced at the time. She also filed a restraining order against her ex-partner and requested the sole custody of their son.
Speaking to People now about the Usher concert, Palmer said: “I was speechless [at the time]. I was at a photo shoot and everybody was looking all weird. I was like, ‘Are y’all good?’ And then I randomly was on my phone and I saw. It was so crazy. I didn’t want to engage with something that wasn’t reality and fan the fire.
“I was just at a concert, doing what I do as an entertainer, creating a fun moment. How it became a storyline that me and Usher are in love, I don’t know.”
The Nope and Hustlers actor continued: “I live a very basic life, but fame would make you think that I go to the Usher concert and pull him off the stage and have him wrapped around my finger. You might think that, but it’s like, ‘Girl, I’m just like every other mama going out for a night.'”
Shortly after the concert, Palmer appeared in an Usher music video. “As we all know, things are never really what they seem,” she added.
