The track, which blends ethereal melodies with techno and synth, comes from her fourth studio album, which arrives October 18 on DH2, the new electronic imprint from the Dirty Hit label, which is spearheaded by The 1975’s George Daniel.
Owens, alongside Daniel, Oscar Farrell and TimFromTheHouse, will be performing at the label’s launch party tonight (July 11) at the Phonox in Brixton.
Touching on the new single, the former NME cover star said: “‘Love You Got’ was born out of the curiosity of discovering my own inner euphoria – balancing the dark & the light within myself to find ultimate bliss in connection with others.”
Per a press release, the new record was inspired by her “inner evolution” and collaborative spirit: “It’s the sound of a person letting loose and letting go while encouraging everyone else to do the same.”
‘Dreamstate’ also features producer-writer credits from the likes of Bicep, The Chemical Brothers’ Tom Rowlands, and The 1975‘s Daniel. Owens’ has previously teamed up with Jon Hopkins, St. Vincent, and Bjørk.
Owens, who recently played Glastonbury 2024, will perform the album in a string of performances across the globe.
They include a free show played alongside Caribou in a North Wales community centre accessible-to-all, on tours supporting collaborators The Chemical Brothers and Bicep, and at a gig playing Charli XCX’s PARTYGIRL takeover at Ibiza’s iconic Amnesia nightclub with Boiler Room, with more dates to be announced soon.
Last year, Owens earned the praise of Depeche Mode, who she supported on the North American leg of their 2023 ‘Memento Mori’ world tour.
Martin Gore said at the time: “We were given a massive list of potential support acts; some of them I knew, like Kelly Lee Owens who I actually really liked, and we decided she’d be a perfect fit,” adding that “what she does is very atmospheric and it never seems like there’s only one person playing – she really puts her soul into it”.
