The women’s jeans Kendrick Lamar wore at the Super Bowl were actually intended for Timothée Chalamet, according to new reports.

Last Sunday (February 9), the Compton rapper made history by becoming the first solo rapper to headline the coveted Halftime Show. The slot went on to pull 133.5million live viewers, as well as over 38million views on YouTube – making it the most-watched Super Bowl performance in history.

Now, it has been revealed that the designer bootcut jeans he wore during the performance – which was a popular talking point with viewers online – were actually intended to be worn by A-list actor Timothée Chalamet.

According to an insider who shared a new statement with Page Six, the rapper’s stylist Taylor McNeil had originally sourced the pair of women’s jeans for the A Complete Unknown actor. However, they coincidentally ended up working better with the ‘Not Like Us’ rapper.

The jeans are made by Celine and are priced at $1,300 (£1,051) per pair. A description on the website describes them as “flared surf jean in summer dazed wash”.

The fact that they were reportedly intended for Chalamet first could explain why the trousers appeared so long on K.Dot, as he comes in at roughly 5’5”, whereas the actor is noticeably taller and around 5’10”.

As highlighted by the Daily Mail, the set also saw the rapper sporting a one-of-a-kind blue leather Martine Rose bomber jacket that featured custom embroidery and archival sports panels. He also wore a diamond Rahiminov brooch on his hat that is valued at $68,000 (£54.5k)

Following the set, the Celine jeans were a huge talking point for fans and soon went viral across social media.

“The height, the pettiness, the light wash bootcut jeans … Kendrick really latina omfgg,” one viewer quipped on X/Twitter after the show, while another shared: “Kendrick rly a bad bitch in these jeans I need them can he drop a link.”

Someone else said: “Everyone is weighing in on Kendrick and the halftime show but no one is mentioning the fact he’s wearing your sister’s American Eagle jeans she bought in 06’ down at the Dakota Square in Minot North Dakota????”. Find more fan reactions below.

It also came shortly after both Lamar and Chalamet joined up to sing some of the rapper’s deep cuts in a joint interview. Made for the NFL network, the video saw the two sit in a GNX car – the model Lamar named his 2024 album after – while they delivered renditions of ‘The Heart Pt. 2’ from 2010’s ‘Overly Dedicated’ and ‘Kush & Corinthians’ from 2011’s ‘Section.80’.

The first part of the video was released on Friday (February 7) and saw Chalamet declare his love for Lamar. “Just being a fan of your music forever and knowing like, look where you’re at now, man” he said. “It’s just crazy, Super Bowl halftime show. And you just keep climbing, bro. It’s like, amazing”.

For his performance, Kendrick Lamar was joined by SZA and featured cameos from Samuel L. Jackson and Serena Williams.

Both he and SZA are due to hit the road for a joint tour this year, performing across North America between April and June. The slot at the Halftime Show also came just days after he swept the 2025 Grammys, winning five awards – all for ‘Not Like Us’ – including Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
