Kenya Grace covers Britney Spears during debut Glastonbury set
Kenya Grace has covered Britney Spears, Daniel Bedingfield and more during her first-ever Glastonbury set.
Today (June 28), the South African-born musical polymath took over the Woodsies stage, bringing her signature mellow drum and bass sound to Worthy Farm. Her performance comes after the success of her major-label debut single, ‘Strangers’, which she released last September. The song eventually blew up on TikTok and topped the charts in seven countries, including the UK. Back in March, she dropped her first EP ‘The After Taste’.
Grace’s set opened with a deep voice giving a brief monologue, saying: “If you have a weird taste in your mouth and you don’t know where it’s coming from, I want to help you identify where it’s coming from. There’s quite a few reasons for this…”
Then the North London resident appeared on stage, kicking off her set by mashing up Crystal Waters’ dance classic ‘Gypsy’ with her turbulent love song ‘Afterparty Lover’. After singing the song, Grace would go behind the podium again and continue to mix popular dance and pop tracks with her syrupy electropop.
Grace reworked Gwen Stefani‘s ‘Hollaback Girl’ and Imogen Heap‘s ‘Hide and Seek’ (which she sampled on ‘Meteor’ last year).
She then grabbed a microphone and sang the popular 2002 garage tune ‘Gotta Get Thru This’ by Daniel Beddingfield. Grace also did her own rendition of Britney Spears’ seminal 2003 pop anthem ‘Toxic’ mid-way through the DJing segment of her gig.
The 20-year-old did perform other songs from her recent EP, including her “delusion song” ‘Only In My Mind”.
Here’s the setlist for Kenya Grace’s Glastonbury 2024 set:
1. ‘Afterparty Lover’
2. ‘Paris’
3. ‘Stay’
4. ‘It’s Not Fair’
5. ‘Always On My Mind’
6. ‘My Baby Loves to Dance’
7. ‘Meteor’/ ‘Hide and Seek’ (Imogen Heap cover)
8. ‘Someone Else’
9. ‘Oranges’
10. ‘Toxic’ (Britney Spears cover)
11. ‘Strangers’
