Kep1er tease new album ‘Kep1going On’, likely to be their final release
Kep1er have returned with their first studio album ‘Kep1going On’ and its title track ‘Shooting Star’, their final release as a nine-member group.
On June 3, the K-pop girl group released a music video for their new single ‘Shooting Star’. The new visual opens with a meteor shower, and the girl group launch into the song’s choreography in a pod heading towards earth.
“Ah-ooh, throwing my whole body into the darkness / Ah-ooh, like that star that won’t fade / Da-ra-da-da-da-da, ooh / Fly high, like shooting stars,” they sing in the chorus.
‘Kep1going On’ marks Kep1er’s final release as a nine-member group. Last week, their agency WAKEONE shared after months of speculation that members Mashiro and Yeseo would not be extending their original two-and-a-half year contracts with them.
Originally from 143 Entertainment, home to girl group LIMELIGHT, the pair will conclude their activities as members of Kep1er after the group’s upcoming concert and promotional activities for ‘Kep1going On’.
Kep1er will continue their activities as a seven-member group with remaining members Yujin, Xiaoting, Chaehyun, Dayeon, Hikaru, Huening Bahiyyih and Youngeun. At the time of publishing, WAKEONE has yet to share how long the remaining members have extended their contracts.
The K-pop girl group’s contracts as a temporary project are due to officially expire this year on July 3. This was a condition set by the survival show that formed Kep1er, Girls Planet 999, which stipulated that the winning line-up would embark on a two-and-a-half-year contract when the show concluded in October 2021. The group made their official debut in January 2022.
In other K-pop news, girl group STAYC have begun teasing the release of their first studio album ‘Metamorphic’. Due out on July 1, the release comes nearly a year after their third mini-album ‘Teenfresh’.
