Killer Mike announces new album to close out ‘Michael’ era

Killer Mike performs live

Killer Mike has announced a new album, ‘Songs for Sinners & Saints’ – find out more below.

Yesterday (July 29), the rapper – who is also one half of Run The Jewels – took to social media to announce the new record. Fortunately, it won’t be a long wait until fans can get their hands on the record, as it is due to arrive this Friday (August 2). You can now pre-save the album on all major digital streaming platforms.

‘Songs for Sinners & Saints’ has been described as the “epilogue” to Killer Mike’s Grammy-winning ‘Michael’. The Atlanta rapper wrote on Instagram of the album: “When I was growing up an important part of church service was people having the opportunity to stand up and give public testimony on their trials, tribulations, and triumphs.”

“After the celebratory atmosphere that followed ‘MICHAEL’ I was reminded that tribulations never cease, but God is always with me and this is a testimonial of my tumultuous times, my trials, and my continued triumph in spite of doubt, outright hate, and fear.”

The album will feature the rapper’s latest single, ‘Humble Me’, which chronicles his arrest at the 2024 Grammy Awards. Through his lyrics, he drew parallels between his recent arrest and the experience of civil rights activists as well as the Biblical story of Daniel in the lions’ den.

While reflecting on the February 4 incident, he rapped: “I won at the Grammys for spitting my grammar / Did that for Atlanta, bruh / swept up like a janitor / Got sent to the slammer / Treat me like an animal or some kind of Hannibal / Vicious and cannibal.”

Earlier this year, Mike was detained by Los Angeles police, which stemmed from an altercation with a security guard outside the Grammy pre-telecast. Although he was initially charged with misdemeanour battery, the city’s Attorney’s Office later decided not to pursue any criminal charges. Instead, the Run The Jewels star completed community service.

Killer Mike will soon begin a trek across the UK and Europe. Visit here for any tickets to the UK and EU shows.

Speaking to NME about ‘Michael’, the rapper said the record “was an opportunity for people to know fully who I am”.

He explained: “I realised this is 20 years in the game and people have met the persona of Michael – they’ve met Killer Mike, who was named in a rap battle at 16 and is the product of a nine-year-old’s daydream of being an MC… They’ve known me as one half of one of the greatest rap groups ever, Run the Jewels, but they hadn’t met Michael.

“With Covid happening and with me getting incredibly sick for two weeks before they even named it Covid and seeing people leave too soon, I thought: ‘Man, what a shame it’d be for me to die and people not get introduced to me. So while I’m here, let me give opportunity for people to know fully who I am.’”
