Kimberly Perry Signs With RECORDS Nashville/Columbia as Solo Artist

Shortly after sibling trio The Band Perry revealed they were officially taking a career break, the group’s lead singer Kimberly Perry has announced she’s pursuing a solo career.

Perry has inked a deal with RECORDS Nashville/Columbia Records as a solo artist. In a statement, Perry noted that RECORDS’ “appreciation for my journey and my vision for the future as a solo artist has been overwhelming,” adding, “Everything came together so organically, and it felt right from the very start.”

Now a Nashville resident, Perry says, “Being in this town of amazing, creative people for the past year brought me full circle to my original passions — country music and sharing meaningful stories. I am so lucky to have found such a wonderful and welcoming community here, and I feel equally lucky to have found the perfect partner in RECORDS to get my new music out to the fans.”

RECORDS Nashville is home to artists including George Birge, Matt Stell, James Barker Band and Erin Kinsey.

RECORDS founder/CEO Barry Weiss added in a statement, “We’re so excited at RECORDS Nashville to welcome Kimberly Perry as a solo artist with her return to country music.”

Meanwhile, RECORDS Nashville executive vp of promo & commercial strategy Josh Easler and RECORDS Nashville executive vp Joe Fisher added, “We are thrilled about the honor of working with one of the most recognizable artists in country music. Kimberly has made some incredible music for her solo country debut, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”

One week ago, The Band Perry announced they were taking a break, telling fans via Instagram, “We wanted to let you know that the three of us have decided to take a creative break as a group and each focus on our individual creative pursuits. During this season we will support each other as artists and family in all that we do. Thank you for making our childhood dreams come true!”

Perry co-founded The Band Perry alongside her brothers Neil and Reid Perry. In 2010, the trio released a self-titled album that would go on to be certified platinum; they released the gold-selling follow-up Pioneer in 2013. Along the way, they put out the seven-times-platinum single “If I Die Young” (written by Kimberly alone), as well as fan favorites “Better Dig Two,” “You Lie” and “Done.” They have earned Country Music Association awards for new artist of the year, as well as single and song of the year (both for “If I Die Young”). They additionally won a Grammy for best country duo/group performance for their rendition of Glen Campbell’s “Gentle on My Mind.”
