King Charles III to share playlist of “songs which have brought me joy” on one-off radio show
King Charles III is set to share a personally curated playlist of his favourite songs on a one-off radio show. Find out the details below.
Dubbed ‘The King’s Music Room’, the launch comes in partnership with Apple Music and sees His Majesty celebrate music from across the Commonwealth. It was recorded at Buckingham Palace, and set to offer an exclusive insight into the King’s relationship with music.
It will be available on Apple Music 1 at 6am on March 10, and additional radio broadcasts will be available throughout Monday and Tuesday on Apple Music 1 and Apple Music Hits. On the playlist will be a selection of tracks that reflect the royal’s personal taste, including 1930s crooners, Afrobeats stars, disco icons and reggae giants.
Also featured is an introduction read by King Charles III, as well as a number of anecdotes about how he came to discover the songs and how they helped form the soundtrack of his life.
“Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. I know that is also the case for so many others. It has that remarkable ability to bring happy memories flooding back from the deepest recesses of our memory, to comfort us in times of sadness, and to take us to distant places,” he says in the introductory remarks.
“But perhaps, above all, it can lift our spirits to such a degree, and all the more so when it brings us together in celebration. In other words, it brings us joy.”
The exact tracks included on the playlist have not yet been announced, although it is expected to see songs from icons like Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, and Grace Jones, as well as newer talent like RAYE and Davido.
“Human curation has always been a key pillar of our unique editorial approach,” said Apple Music’s global head of Content and Editorial, Rachel Newman. “Apple Music Radio is where culture is happening worldwide, and we are honoured that King Charles III chose to share his personal playlist with us, and with music fans around the world.”

“You can see His Majesty’s wide-ranging enthusiasm for music in this playlist to mark Commonwealth Day,” continued Errollyn Wallen, CBE, who acted as Master of The King’s Music Room. “The Commonwealth has produced more than its fair share of wonderful songs, singers, and musicians, and this fun and eclectic collection is a great reminder of this treasure trove of creativity.”
You can check out The King’s Music Room premiere on Apple Music 1 on Monday (March 10) at 6am GMT, or tune in anytime on demand with an Apple Music subscription.
As highlighted by Sky News, this isn’t the only time that King Charles III has opened up about his love of music. Back in 2021, the royal also shared that songs by The Three Degrees, Diana Ross and Edith Piaf were among his personal favourites.
As for other royals, last year, the Prince Of Wales attended a Taylor Swift ‘Eras’ live show along with Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
