King Charles’ new portrait is getting memed with a ‘Ghostbusters’ character comparison
Ghostbusters fans have noticed a resemblance between a character from the second film and the latest portrait of King Charles III.
The portrait, painted by Jonathan Yeo, was unveiled earlier this week. Eight feet in height, the oil painting shows the King in his red Welsh Guards uniform against a striking red background, with a butterfly landing on his shoulder.
However, some have noticed that the painting – which is the King’s first official portrait since his Coronation last year – bears some similarity to the Ghostbusters 2 villain Vigo the Carpathian, a European tyrant who haunts his 16th-century portrait.
Fans of the 1989 movie have taken to social media to compare the two portraits. One user expressed their opinion on the portrait, writing: “I do not like it, it makes him look like the devil. His portrait looks incredible, amazing skills, as does the butterfly, but otherwise it looks satanic. Or you need to call the Ghostbusters, because Vigo the Carpathian is BACK IN THE HOUSE!”

One fan posted the two pictures side-by-side, writing: “Who wore it better? King Charles or Vigo the Carpathian from Ghostbusters 2.”
Vigo, who attempts to possess multiple characters throughout the film, including Dan Aykroyd’s Ray, was played by the late German actor, Wilhelm von Homburg, and voiced by Max von Sydow.
