How y’all doing? You’re looking good. It is such an honor to be back, y’all. Billboard Women In Music, come on! Give it to me!

One of my favorite things about the celebration is that we get to showcase so many different styles of music. It’s a place where a gal who grew up in a small farming community in Louisiana gets to shine a light on an incredible group of K-pop performers from halfway across the globe. Of course, I think y’all know who I’m talking about. I am talking about NewJeans, the recipient of the inaugural Group of the Year Award presented by Coke Studio.

After making their debut in 2022, NewJeans has helped lead a new wave of girl groups in K-pop, a genre long dominated by men. They built both a core fan base at home in Korea and worldwide. Among their many chart achievements, their EP Get Up went to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and they scored five Hot 100 entries in 2023. Congratulations to all the members of NewJeans. Congrats, y’all. It is an honor to present you with this award.
