Lance Bass Reveals Diabetes Diagnosis During COVID: ‘I’m Really Trying to Figure Out How to Control That’
Lance Bass is opening up about the diabetes diagnosis he got during the COVID-19 lockdown, telling People that the news forced him to re-think his diet, exercise and mindfulness routines. “I’m really trying to figure out how to control that,” the 44-year-old singer and *NSYNC member told the magazine. “I’m definitely conscious of my eating now.”
In order to get a handle of his blood sugar levels, Bass said he’s learning “what you can eat, when you can eat, when you take your insulin — and all that has just been really hard lately.” That lifestyle change includes Bass prioritizing his physical health, including upping his work-out schedule.
“Exercising is so key right now, but it’s hard for me because of my schedule to get to a gym,” said the married father of twins Violet and Alexander with husband painter/actor Michael Turchin. “So I do have a nice setup at my house and I get 15 minutes here, 20 minutes there.” One of the most important lessons he said he’s learned is the importance of drinking “tons” of water. You think you’re drinking too much water, [but] you need to drink even more than that.”
In addition to exercise and diet, Bass said he’s begun meditating in the morning, a practice he said “cuts my brain off just for a few minutes,” as well as hiking to improve his mental state.
Bass has also been busy lately collaborating with his former *NSYNC bandmate Justin Timberlake, first on the on-hiatus boy band’s first new charting single since 2002, the 2023 Trolls Band Together soundtrack single “Better Place,” which debuted at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. He’s also featured — along with Joey Fatone, JC Chasez and Chris Kirkpatrick — on “Paradise,” the 17th song on Timberlake’s upcoming solo album, Everything I Thought It Was.
