Like a Dragon: Yakuza actor finally gets to sing iconic karaoke song

Yakuza

The Like a Dragon video games are known for their wacky, eccentric side stories as antics as well as their serious main plots. Amazon Prime‘s streaming series omitted more of the zany elements of the games, but we’ve finally been given a clip of actor Ryoma Takeuchi sing Kiryu’s iconic karaoke song.

Like A Dragon: Yakuza is Prime’s streaming series based on the Like a Dragon video games. Most of these follow Yakuza member Kiryu as he navigates life amongst organised crime. The series is famous for its over-the-top hand-to-hand combat and its gripping stories, but fans also love the more wacky moments in the games.

One of these is Kiryu’s love of karaoke. As reported by IGN, Kiryu starts singing the song ‘Bakamitai’, which translates to ‘I’ve Been a Fool’ in Yakuza 5, but it was added in Yakuza 0 and Kiwami, the remake of the original game. It’s a song that reflects the struggles he has gone through in his own life but it was absent in the series.

Now, Like a Dragon game developer RGG Studio has shared a clip of Prime’s Kiryu actor Ryoma Takeuchi singing the track. He looks the part in his grey suit combined with a red shirt with a flared collar. He looks wistful as he sings, even staring at a photo of himself and his friends at one point.

Fans seem happy that the clip was finally shown, but are sad the show didn’t fit the games’. “I really do wish the show was like the games,” wrote KJovian. In NME‘s two-star review of the show, it wrote “Amazingly, even though sticking pretty tightly to the first game’s plot, directors Masaharu Take and Kengo Takimoto have managed to fluff it a bit.”

In other news, the Kamala Harris campaign has released a Fortnite map encouraging young people to vote.
