Lil Nas X Is a Big Baller on ‘Swish’ Single: ‘Get Out the Paint… You Can’t Contain Me’
Another day, another single from Lil Nas X. At this rate we could have the whole album by next week. After surprise dropping the songs “Big Dummy” and “Dreamboy” earlier this week, LNX was at it again on Wednesday morning (March 12) when he served up the latest taste of his upcoming Dreamboy album.
This time, though, Lil Nas is pulling up on the flexing and getting a bit more internal, mostly singing over the low-key ambient keyboard groove. “Swish, they gotta make this shot, gonna make this hot/ Swish, they gotta make this shot, gotta hit this/ I won’t miss/ Another one in, another one in,” he sings in the intro before looking inward to reflect on his increased self-confidence and bravado.
“These days, these days/ I walk different these days/ I talk different these days/ These days, these days/ I ain’t no longer stuck in my ways/ I’m flippin’ scripts and turnin’ the page,” Lil Nas sing-raps in the bare-bones video for the track, which like “Big Dummy” was filmed on a stark white soundstage. As his three dancers lift weights and hit the heavy bag behind him, Lil Nas shows off his six-pack abs while wearing just a pair of pink shorts and matching hat and holding a pink basketball in one hand.
“I ain’t clingin’ on this s–t, I’m changing, let’s be for real/ Drive forward to the net I laid in, uh/ Get out of the paint, lil’ ho, you can’t contain me,” he raps near the end on the slow bounce track.
“Hotbox,” a fourth preview of Lil Nas’ upcoming album, is due out on Friday (March 14). At press time no official release date has been announced for Dreamboy, the rapper’s follow-up to his 2021 debut album, Montero.
