Listen to Bdrmm’s synth-driven new single ‘Infinity Peaking’

Bdrmm, 2025

Bdrmm have shared a synth-heavy new single called ‘Infinity Peaking’. Check it out below.

The new release comes as the second preview of the Hull-based shoegaze band’s upcoming third album, ‘Microtonic’, and follows on from the lead single ‘John On The Ceiling’. The record is the follow-up to 2023’s ‘I Don’t Know’ and is set to arrive on February 28 via Mogwai’s label Rock Action – visit here to pre-order/pre-save.

Today (January 13), the band have shared another preview of the record in the form of ‘Infinity Peaking’. The song takes on a more synth-driven approach than earlier tracks in their discography, and captures a dream-like atmosphere.

“Forgiving myself, one more time, again/ Staring out at the world I have created, so lost/ And it feels like I’m losing my mind,” frontman Ryan Smith sings on top of the ethereal instrumentals.

“Infinity Peaking perfectly encapsulates the band we were and the band we are now, that careful balance of shoegaze and electronica,” Smith said of the new single. “It was written when I was in Malaga, and is the first track I wrote that wasn’t in some dingy bedroom.

“It’s a track that is full of true joy (despite the lyrics) and it was a pleasure to work on in the studio/ It’s one that we felt we could really get into the experimentation on, especially in the long-spanning mid-section,” the singer and guitarist continued. “We’re always happiest when we’re sat on the floor of the studio surrounding the latest pedal we bought, each dying to have a pass on it.”

The new album was recorded with Bdrmm’s long-term collaborator Alex Greaves, and features guest appearances from Sydney Minsky Sargeant (Working Men’s Club) and Olivesque (Nightbus).

It is also described as “a bold leap for the group, who have embraced a fuller spectrum of tones and atmospheres”, although still set to represent Bdrmm’s “trademark sound”.

As well as announcing the new album in November, the band also shared details of an upcoming UK and Ireland headline tour set for this spring. The trek includes a performance at the Electric Ballroom in Camden on March 19.

Bdrmm opened up about their new musical direction during an interview with NME in June 2023. “We’ve got the confidence to try new things out now,” said bassist Jordan Smith.

“On this second album, the best part about it was having the first under our belt with a certain sound, it was a launch pad for thinking about where we wanted to go next and what ideas we wanted to get across. I think also partly the fact we’re able to afford more instruments now.”

Guitarist Joe Vickers continued: “This record is us having the confidence to delve deeper into the music that we love. It is a cliché that we’ve put the guitars down, but I struggle playing the same things over and over again, like krautrock riffs, it bores me and if I am then everyone else is.”

‘I Don’t Know’ was given a four-star review by NME, which read:“This is a special record by a band who are not-so-quietly raising the bar for the whole British scene.”
