Listen to Chase & Status and Stormzy’s powerful new single ‘Backbone’
Chase & Status have shared a powerful new single with Stormzy called ‘Backbone’ – listen to it below.
The track has been generating much buzz online after Stomzy made a surprise appearance with Chase & Status during their recent Ushuaïa Ibiza takeover. It was first debuted live during the band’s Coachella set earlier this year.
A statement about the collaboration says the single “represents the coming together of two musical titans from different genres, blending the best of electronic music with the raw energy of UK Rap’s brightest star.”
Speaking about the collaboration, the band said: “We are so gassed to work with the legend that is Stormzy. We’ve always wanted to bring his energy into our world and this are so excited for the fans to hear this collaboration.”

Last month, Stormzy pleaded guilty to driving a Lamborghini with illegally tinted windows.
The London rapper – real name Michael Ebenazer Owuo Jr. – submitted a guilty plea last month (July 24), after driving the Urus around Kingston upon Thames on October 17 last year. The Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court adjourned the case until October 16.
It came just days after the rapper confirmed his split from Maya Jama via an Instagram story. The two originally started dating in 2014, but called it quits in 2019; they reunited in August last year.
Taking to social media, the duo began: “Hey guys, we’ve been laughing whilst drafting this because we never, ever, in a million years thought we’d be the couple announcing a breakup, but for the sake of clarity and, more importantly, to allow us the space and grace that’s needed for us both to be able to navigate this next bit of our lives with peace, we thought it might be best to.”
They then explained that they’ve spent “this past year trying our best to make it work; however, we recently decided to call it quits,” adding: “We were 21 and 20 when we first met – both at the beginning of our careers – and spent five years growing together and then five years growing separately, so this final attempt required a whole lot of figuring out, relearning, and unlearning. We tried, and it didn’t work, and that’s OK.”
In other Stormzy news, the artist recently revealed that he’s “just been creating” for the past two years to come up with the follow-up to 2022’s ‘This Is What I Mean’. He has also joined forces with Adidas to announce a new #MerkyFC HQ centre for football, music and gaming.
Chase & Status meanwhile performed at last month’s MELT festival, the last ever incarnation of the German festival. The festival decided to call it quits after struggling with what it described as “insurmountable changes in the festival landscape.”
