Listen to Father John Misty’s swaggering new single ‘She Cleans Up’
Father John Misty has shared a new single titled ‘She Cleans Up’ – you can listen to it below.
The song is the latest preview of the singer-songwriter’s sixth studio album ‘Mahashmashana’, which is due for release on November 22 via Sub Pop/Bella Union (pre-order/pre-save here).
Following on from the tracks ‘Screamland’ and ‘I Guess Time Just Makes Fools Of Us All’, the latest offering from FJM – real name Joshua Tillman – was previously shared via the artist’s official Soundcloud. He had also previewed it live on tour.
“I had a vision that Mary of Magdalene/ Saw the future that awaits just before Good Friday eve/ Figured the wages of salvation were a little too steep/ Said no-one’s fucking with my baby lord and got on to the teet,” Tillman sings in the first verse.
His distorted vocals are backed by an infectious electric guitar part and swaggering upbeat drums as he delivers the refrain: “Cleaning up/ Cleaning up/ Clean up/ She cleans up.” Tune in here:
Additionally, the forthcoming ‘Mahashmashana’ will contain the as-yet-unreleased song ‘Josh Tillman And The Accidental Dose’ – which FJM has performed at recent live gigs.
Father John Misty is set to head out on a UK and European tour next spring in support of his new album. The trek includes a performance at the historic Royal Albert Hall in London on April 15. Find any remaining tickets here.
Father John Misty’s 2025 UK tour dates are:
APRIL
12 – Usher Hall, Edinburgh, UK
13 – O2 Apollo, Manchester, UK
14 – Brighton Dome, Brighton, UK
15 – Royal Albert Hall, London, UK
The follow-up to 2022’s ‘Chloë And The Next 20th Century’ was co-produced by Tillman and Drew Erickson. A brief description of the record reads: “After a decade being born, Josh Tillman is finally busy dying. ‘Mahashmashana’ is the sixth album by Father John Misty.”
In a glowing five-star review of ‘Chloë…’, NME said that the album “showcases what Tillman’s imagination can do when it is set free to explore new and unpredictable sonic paths”.
It continued: “‘Olvidado (Otro Momento)’, a shimmying bossa nova track that sees him sing in Spanish, never settles entirely, expanding its woozy ambience into a thick beat made up of quietly vast percussive flourishes. It’s a perfect example of how nothing on this album ends up quite where you’d expect it – including the ever-evolving artist who made it.”
