Listen to JADE’s haunting “S.A.D. version” of ‘Angel Of My Dreams’
JADE has dropped a reworked “S.A.D. version’ of her debut solo single ‘Angel Of My Dreams’.
The former Little Mix singer, full name Jade Thirlwall, released the “S.A.D” (slow, angelic, dramatic) version of her upbeat pop hit earlier today (August 9).
The rework adds a haunting and alternative perspective to the original track. In an accompanying music video, JADE transforms into a disdained-looking bride – wearing a white corset and matching veil. She performs the track live, basking under a spotlight.
Fans are quick to praise JADE in the comments section of the music video. One said: “Jade isn’t just a singer, she is a very clever woman who knows how to make a real and true masterpiece.”
Another admiring fan added: “How she managed to completely change the song while still maintaining the integrity of the lyrics I will never understand. I now love both versions of this song which is rare for me lol. Absolutely amazing!!”
The original ‘Angel Of My Dreams’, released in July, was a huge success for the singer. “You only care about money (Money) / Sellin’ my soul to a psycho / They say I’m so lucky / Better act like you’re lucky, honey,” she sings in the first verse of the track, which has been described as a “shape-shifting banger”, while referring to her love/hate relationship with the music industry.
JADE’s ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ has garnered over 15 million streams so far, debuting at No. 7 on the UK Official Singles Chart, making it the third-highest new entry by a British artist this year.
The music video for the original song, where JADE is seen sporting 11 different looks, was number one on YouTube for 10 days.
She shared: “The concept is sort of rags to riches, and it was emotional actually, because for one bit I’m busking and walking past a Sainsbury’s Local. When I was 16, I would stand outside my local Sainsbury’s and sing Christmas songs,” (via Capital).
‘Angel Of My Dreams’ was written in Los Angeles alongside Steph Jones – who worked on Sabrina Carpenter‘s ‘Espresso’, Pablo Bowman (Calvin Harris) and producer Mike Sabbath (RAYE).
In other JADE news, she recently revealed on BBC’s Sidetracked podcast how her former Little Mix bandmates helped wing-woman her during an “embarrassing” encounter with Prince Harry at the 2015 Royal Variety Performance.
She has also spoken out about learning Arabic in honour of her Egyptian and Yemeni roots.
Speaking to Rebecca Judd on Apple Music 1 about her hobbies post-Little Mix, she said: “Well, I am learning Arabic. I’m trying to sort of tap into my roots a bit more”.
She then requested that Judd not ask her to speak the language, adding: “I’ll just forget every single word under the sun!”
