Listen to Jordan Adetunji’s exclusive ‘Songs You Should Love’ playlist to accompany The Cover
NME’s latest star of The Cover, Jordan Adetunji, has compiled an exclusive playlist to accompany the story’s launch – check it out below.
The artist from Belfast is on this week’s (October 21) edition of The Cover, a renewal of NME’s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover – you can read the profile of Jordan Adetunji here, written by Fred Garratt-Stanley and featuring photography by Chris Buck.
The Cover is accompanied by an exclusive playlist compiled by Adetunji, featuring songs he thinks “you should love”. The playlist includes tracks by the likes of The Weeknd, WILLOW, Searows, Brandy, some of his own hits, and more. Listen to the full playlist on Spotify below and on Apple Music.
In The Cover, Adetunji reflects on the success of his single, ‘Kehlani’, which he released earlier this year. “It’s crazy hearing it in the club still,” he smiles. “Seeing Jaden Smith vibing to it, seeing Travis Scott going crazy to it on his Story… it’s created a culture, which I love.”
The musician also shared how he got the song’s namesake – US R&B star Kehlani – to feature on it, saying he always wanted her to guest on the track, but was too shy to ask her himself. “She hit me up and said, ‘So am I gonna get the open verse?’ and I was like, ‘That’s crazy!’” he explains. “She was in the studio, and I needed to send her the file, so I was in the middle of the club trying to search for the right file; I’d named it something so dumb! I managed to get it to her, and she locked in on that one. The remix came out fire.”
