Maxïmo Park have shared a new single called ‘The End Can Be As Good As The Start’ – listen to it below.

The song serves as the latest preview of the Newcastle band’s eighth studio album ‘Stream Of Life’, which is due for release on September 27 via Lower Third (pre-order/pre-save here).

In a statement, frontman Paul Smith explained: “It’s an exuberant New Wave-y alt-pop-rocker about faith, solidarity and sustaining relationships in the face of society’s structural hurdles.”

Did you find yourself in me?/ ‘Cause I found myself in you,” Smith sings in the chorus, while also expressing hope for the future. Elsewhere, he ponders over “the patriarchy”, marriage and losing faith in his “philosophy”.

The track is accompanied by a surreal black-and-white official video, created by Yza Voku. Tune in here:

‘The End Can Be As Good As The Start’ follows on from Maxïmo Park’s 2024 singles ‘Favourite Songs’ and ‘Your Own Worst Enemy’ – both of which will appear on the forthcoming ‘Stream Of Life’.

Produced by Ben Allen (Gnarls BarkleyAnimal Collective) and Burke Reid (Courtney BarnettSports Team), the record will be the follow-up to 2021’s ‘Nature Always Wins’.

Smith said previously: “We’ve always tried to document the world around us at each stage of our lives while subtly nudging the music forward each time – this record continues that mission.

“It was great to be back in a studio after recording remotely last time. Working with Ben in Atlanta, and Burke in Byker, was as stimulating as it’s ever been, and I think we captured that energy.”

He concluded: “Thematically, the record covers passion, politics and privilege amongst other topics.”
