Listen to Pale Waves’ “euphoric” new break-up song ‘Glasgow’
Pale Waves have shared a new single called ‘Glasgow’ – you can listen to it below.
The song serves as the second preview of the Manchester band’s fourth album ‘Smitten’, which is due for release on September 20 via Dirty Hit (pre-order/pre-save here).
“‘Glasgow’ is my favourite from ‘Smitten’,” explained frontwoman Heather Baron-Gracie. “It’s about leaving someone because you know it’s no good for either of you anymore. It somehow breaks my heart but also makes me feel so euphoric at the same time.”
In the soaring chorus, she sings: “When I left you in Glasgow/ I remember crying on the way home/ Yeah, I had to go and get myself out of there/ Oh, ’cause there was nothing left/ Nothing left for us to repair.”
The bittersweet, ’80s-sounding track also sees Baron-Gracie reflecting on a relationship at “the start of the summer“. Later, she ruminates over whether her decision to “run away” was a “mistake“.
‘Glasgow’ arrives with an official video in which the singer – donning a wedding dress and denim jacket – packs a suitcase and hits the road in a convertible. Tune in here:
Pale Waves recently announced a UK headline tour for this autumn, including a gig at Here at Outernet in London. Find any remaining tickets here, and see the full schedule below.
Last month, the group released ‘Perfume’ as the lead single from ‘Smitten’. The forthcoming album will follow on from 2022’s ‘Unwanted’, and was written over two years between the US and the UK.
“I found myself writing about not just a certain time period, but my whole life, from years ago,” said Baron-Gracie in a previous statement.
“When I fall in love, I fall deep, and it’s interesting to me that you can feel so fascinated and smitten with someone and then they can become a total stranger. So I feel like ‘Smitten’ really summarised perfectly what I felt for others at a certain point.”
Last November, the band revealed that they were working on the record – and called it their “best yet”.
