Long-awaited ‘BioShock’ sequel could be here soon
A long-awaited sequel to BioShock could be finally set to see the light of day.
The first game came out in 2007 and it was a sensation with its iconic twist, deranged characters, and fantastical underwater setting.
Now as reported by Eurogamer, a senior cinematic designer at BioShock developer 2K Cloud Chamber, Jeff Spoonhower, has taken to LinkedIn to share the news that the team was “ramping up!” for a potential sequel.
“We have many positions open across a variety of disciplines including art, animation, engineering, design, narrative, and production. We are working on a really awesome project, and our studio is remote-friendly,” Spoonhower wrote.
The BioShock sequel has been anticipated since the release of Infinite, but it wasn’t formally announced by 2K until 2019, and since then we’ve not heard much at all. One of the joc descriptions for a level designer at Cloud Chamber states “experience developing, or a desire to develop content focused around replayability and/or systemic, emerging moments” is being sought.
Original series creator Ken Levine, who formed his own studio Ghost Story Games, is working on Judas, a new game but clearly a spiritual successor to BioShock, just as BioShock was a spiritual successor to System Shock before it.
Judas is due to launch sometime in March 2025, but based on the trailers it looks like a BioShock game in all but name. There’s no telling when the upcoming BioShock project in development at Cloud Chamber will come out though.
In other news, Nintendo has now ended all support for the Wii U, and fans of the console have been sharing their thoughts.
