‘Lovely Runner’ star Byeon Woo-seok opens up about his newfound popularity
Byeon Woo-seok, star of the hit K-drama Lovely Runner, has opened up about his newfound popularity following the show’s success.
Byeon Woo-seok recently held a fan-meeting event in Manila, the Phillipines as part of his ‘Summer Letter’ Asia tour. During the event, the actor spoke to Bandwagon about his breakout role in Lovely Runner and how he’s “still not able to get around to the sudden popularity” that he is receiving.
“Everything itself, my day-to-day is actually a big surprise, a big amazement,” Byeon added. He then recalled how he “saw a huge crowd” when he was at the airport and was “so surprised by the number of people who showed up to welcome me”.
The actor the spoke about how he “did not expect this grand success” from Lovely Runner. Nevertheless, he touched on how he and the crew all “hoped that […] people would like the wonderful project we [had] been working on.”
Elsewhere during the interview, Byeon also touched on the kind of roles he would like to play in the future. “I don’t really have a particular role or genre I want to do, but I’m looking forward to doing a project that I would immediately resonate with,” he said. “Maybe there’s another romantic comedy project that will come.”
Lovely Runner originally aired from April to May 2024 on South Korea cable network tvN. The series was available internationally on various streaming services, including Viki, Viu and more.
Aside from Byeon, the K-drama also starred Kim Hye-yoon, who previously made a name for herself in the 2021 to 2022 series Snowdrop, alongside Jung Hae-in and BLACKPINK‘s Jisoo.
