MAMAMOO’s Hwasa recently guested on the September 17 episode of YouTube talk show The K-Star Next Door. During her appearance, the show’s host brought up Hwasa’s “rebellious nature”. She responded by sharing a story from her younger days, of how almost fired as a trainee due to her weight.
“I weighed over 60kg when I was a trainee. My boss told me to lose weight down to 48kg,” she explained. “I did my best and reduced it down to 49kg, yet he still wanted to fire me.” Hwasa then added that this caused her to become upset with the company’s CEO, which led to a disagreement with him over email.
“After a bout with him, I wrote a song about my feelings. The title was ‘My Heart’. What my boss expected to see was an apology, that’s what he got instead,” she shared, laughing. Despite the row, Hwasa did add that her boss “actually liked me more after that”.
Hwasa’s appearance on The K-Star Next Door comes a few days shy of her forthcoming solo comeback with her sophomore mini-album ‘O’ on September 19. The album’s release will mark her first body of work since she released her debut EP ‘María’ in 2020 as well as her first music since leaving RBW Entertainment and signing with the Psy-founded label P Nation.
