Man arrested for “stalking” Emma Watson at Oxford University
A man has been arrested on suspicion of stalking Emma Watson after turning up at Oxford University and demanding to see her.
The Harry Potter actor is studying at the institution for a masters degree in creative writing, after stepping back from public life and film acting in recent years.
Last month (June 26), Chad Michael Busto, 44, was arrested after he was reported by locals for asking a series of questions about Watson, and was held on suspicion of stalking, before being released under investigation.
Busto, an American citizen, told The Sun that he came to the UK with just £800 and a sleeping bag and had been sleeping in a church, hoping to visit the University of Oxford’s English department, so that he could “connect” with Watson.
“They are illegally detaining me and I have no idea when I’ll be allowed to leave,” he claimed. “Police have my possessions. I’m on the run, there’s a danger to my life.”
Busto was previously arrested in September last year for allegedly breaking into a dressing room at a New York fashion show and loudly claiming that he wanted to marry Watson.
He said to The Sun his actions had been “taken out of context” and added that he was trying to get Watson’s attention, which he said “kind of worked”.
At that time, he pleaded not guilty to charges of trespassing and disorderly conduct and was released without bail.
In other Watson news, back in February, her car was towed and impounded after being “illegally” parked in front of a pizza restaurant in Stratford-Upon-Avon.
She has not appeared on screen since 2019’s Little Women, and last year she shed light on why she has taken the break from film acting.
While reflecting on a card in a tarot deck, she told Vogue: “It is an indicator of a major and inexorable change of tectonic breadth so it stands for achievement, fulfilment, possibilities and potentially successful conclusions. I have been sowing a lot of seeds over the last four or five years.”
“You can’t always be in the reaping stage or the harvest stage in life. Life has seasons. For me, the card speaks about a kind of ripeness, things coming to fruition.”
