Margot Robbie and ‘Barbie’ producer Tom Ackerley welcome first child
According to a new report, Margot Robbie has given birth to her first baby.
Per People, the 34-year-old Australian star went into labour two weeks ago shortly before her due date, and “all is well”. Her husband, film producer Tom Ackerley, was also recently photographed stocking up on baby supplies, cigars, and a bottle of wine to toast the baby’s arrival.
Robbie and Ackerley, both aged 34, met in 2013 while filming the war drama Suite Française, in which Robbie played the character Celine and Ackerley served as assistant director.
They married in December 2016 in Australia and became co-founders of the production company LuckyChap Entertainment, which has worked on titles including Saltburn, Birds of Prey, I, Tonya and Promising Young Woman.
Despite being the face of Barbie – which was such a tearaway success last summer it hit the $1billion dollar mark at the box office just two weeks after its release – Robbie has managed to maintain a level of privacy that’s meant details surrounding the birth are scarce, with friends and family of the couple reportedly sworn to secrecy about it.
Robbie also has no social media presence and has yet to officially announce the birth. There are also conflicting reports about the child’s gender the actress has yet to confirm or deny.
In an interview earlier on in her career with The Daily Telegraph, she had joked about having “tons of children”. Speaking in 2016, she said: “I grew up in a family of four, so that sounds like a good number. We’ll see what happens; no time soon. I know that once I have kids, they’ll be my priority, so I want to do the family thing later.”
Elsewhere, it was announced in September that Robbie and Jacob Elordi are set to star in Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights, which is currently in pre-production and will begin filming in the UK next year.
Robbie had previously praised Fennell’s directorial skills, telling Variety in an interview in January, “Emerald immerses you into a world so quickly. She’s so masterful at tone and plot.
“She gets in your brain and she kind of taps into the most depraved parts of it, so that you’re complicit in the story. That’s the watercooler moment — the thing that people are talking about two weeks afterwards.”
