Mariah Carey Celebrates Her 55th ‘Anniversary’ on a Boat
Happy birthday, Mariah Carey — or happy anniversary, rather.
The elusive chanteuse took to Instagram to share the first glimpse of her 55th birthday celebrations on Wednesday (March 27) with a snap of herself lounging on a luxury boat, rocking a sparkling blue gown with her wavy blonde locks up in a ponytail. “Anniversary adventures commence,” she captioned the photo, which you can check out here.
Last year, Carey shared a fan account’s tweet using a resurfaced interview in which she explains her view on birthdays: “I don’t have birthdays. No, well, I just have anniversaries. I decided to do that. And I’ve noticed that people who decide not to have birthdays, they just don’t have them.”
The superstar has an exciting spring season ahead of her, as she’s planning to return to Las Vegas for the third time with the debut of her The Celebration of Mimi residency, which spans from April 12 through April 27 at Dolby Live in Park MGM. The series of shows will honor the 19th anniversary of her fan-favorite album, The Emancipation of Mimi (released on April 12, 2005).
A statement shared with Billboard at the time of announcement states that “the Las Vegas shows will feature fan favorites from that album as well as other hits from her unparalleled illustrious career.” The Emancipation of Mimi, with hits such as “We Belong Together” and “Shake It Off,” was one of the top-selling albums of its year and is known within her catalog as the “comeback album.”
