‘Mario Party Jamboree’ is best entry in series, according to reviews
The reviews for Mario Party Jamboree are in, and they’re mostly glowing.
With an 82 on review aggregator Metacritic, Mario Party Jamboree is a certified success with the critics. Jamboree is a party game where players navigate boards and play minigames. This is the 13th installment to come to home consoles.
NintendoLife gave it a 9 out of 10 score, writing “Mario Party Jamboree is a fantastic new entry in the franchise that focuses on improving the core mechanics and experience, making for a more involving board game in the process, whilst also polishing everything to a slick sheen.”
IGN, also awarded it the same score, and wrote: “Super Mario Party Jamboree is an amazing followup to Mario Party Superstars and easily one of the best games in the series. Not only does it faithfully return to the classic formula established in the Nintendo 64 entries, it confidently improves upon it with a fantastic set of boards that introduce unique and memorable mechanics.”
TheGamer gave it four stars, writing: “Jamboree brings creative boards and a range of enjoyable minigames to the table, but overcooks the single-player stuff. Though non-board multiplayer offerings are slim pickings, there’s a feast of Mario Party delights in this one, and as long as you’re happy to play Mario Party as it was meant to be played, you’ll find your fill here.”
GameSpot was less enamoured with the title, giving it a 6 out 10 score. “Many new elements are attempted in Super Mario Party Jamboree, and unfortunately I feel like a lot of them are unwelcome,” it concluded. “The new modes are largely duds, the tantalising promise of 20-player online falls a bit flat, and several of the new minigames are a slog.”
Eurogamer gave the game its lowest rating so far, awarding it just two stars. It claims Jamboree “just has the misfortune of not being very fun, and mistakes the volatility of chance and happenstance for being the same thing as competitive satisfaction that comes from playing a good game well.”
In other news, a YouTuber is attempting to play every game ever made.
