Megan Thee Stallion and BTS’ RM release anime-inspired music video for ‘Neva Play’
Megan Thee Stallion has released her new single, ‘Neva Play’, featuring RM of K-pop boyband BTS.
Today (September 6), the ‘Mamushi’ rapper unveiled her new collaboration single ‘Neva Play’ featuring BTS leader and rapper RM. The K-pop star does not appear in its music video, instead an animated version of the duo use their superpowers to fight monsters and carry out a heist.
“One, two, three, four (One, two, three, four) / Five, six, seven, eight (Five, six, seven, eight) / Let ’em know we on the way / Countin’ zeros everyday / You know that we neva play,” they rap.
The rapper first began teasing the collaboration last week. Prior to its release, Megan Thee Stallion wrote of RM and the track: “This is one of my favourite RM verses I’ve heard! I’ve never heard him rap in this style before.”
Megan rapper released her third studio album, ‘Megan’, in June. In a four-star review, NME described it as a “confident, cohesive third album that colourfully showcases all aspects of the rapper’s identity and personality”.
She also performed at a rally for Vice President Kamala Harris last month, as the Democratic candidate for president continues on the election trail ahead of Americans heading to the polls on November 5. ‘Wanna Be’, meanwhile, appeared on former President Barack Obama’s annual summer playlist this year.
In RM-related news, the BTS star most recently released his solo album ‘Right Place, Wrong Person’ in May. The album scored a five-star review, with Rhian Daly writing for NME: “It’s a gorgeous, intriguing, artful record that would likely not have come to be had RM not experienced – and then interrogated – these feelings of confusion and being out of place.”
In July, Megan Thee Stallion closed out her ‘Hot Girl Summer’ tour at the O2 in London. NME‘s Kyann-Sian Williams wrote in a five-star review: “The night – which is an exuberant celebration of fun, twerking and self-confidence – ends with her trademark statement that never gets old: ‘Real hot girl shit!'”
