Metallica’s new whiskey was aged in barrels blasted with music from the band’s 72 Seasons album. The limited-edition Blackened Whiskey ’72 Seasons‘ bottle ($50) was announced earlier in June, and incorporates design elements inspired by the album art work such as a yellow capsule with Metallica’s signature “M” designed to look like a lightning bolt.
The aged whiskey features notes of burnt caramel, oak and honey, cinnamon, all-spice, dark fruit, clove and mint with creamy hints of butterscotch taffy, maple and more honey.
Fans can buy the Blackened Whiskey’s 72 Seasons bottle at retailers such as Caskers, Thirstie, Craftshack, Cask Cartel and Spirited Gifts. (Blackened Whiskey is also available on Drizly.)
Blackened Whiskey’s “sonic enhancement process” is used to “extract more flavor from the finishing casts,” according to a press release in May announcing the debut of Blackened Whiskey Cask Strength. Sound engineers at the technology company Meyer Sound developed the patent-pending process dubbed “Black Noise.”
“When creating Blackened, we didn’t want to create just another whiskey,” Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo said in May. “Our goal was to create something unique and refined that would appeal to even the top-notch whiskey experts.”
Blackened Whiskey, a co-sponsor of Metallica’s M72 World Tour, hosts ticket giveaways, concerts and parties in between tour stops. The world tour, which launched in May and continues until September 2024, will stop at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., on Aug. 4, followed by shows in Arlington, Texas; Glendale, Ariz.; Detroit; Chicago; Los Angeles and other cities. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster, Seat Geek, Vivid Seats and StubHub.
If you’re shopping for more Metallica gear, the band has released several collaborations and merch collections including the Pro-ject Audio Limited Edition Metallica Turntable, Metallica Monopoly World Tour Edition, Metallica playing cards, jewelry, clothing and more.
