Michael B. Jordan to direct and star in ‘Thomas Crown Affair’ remake
Michael B. Jordan will helm a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair for Amazon MGM Studios.
The remake will be the second film Jordan has directed, following Creed III, and he will also star in it. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he first attached himself to a potential remake project as far back as 2016. He will also produce via his Outlier Society along with Elizabeth Raposo.
Amazon MGM reportedly intends to give the film an exclusive global run in movie theatres.
The original version of The Thomas Crown Affair was released in 1968, directed by Norman Jewison and starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. McQueen played a wealthy businessman with a side hustle robbing banks, who starts an affair with an insurance investigator (Dunaway) on his trail while he plans another heist.
It was remade in 1999 with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo in the main roles.
A few months ago, Jordan gave an update on the progress of I Am Legend 2 with Will Smith. The film was first announced in March 2022, with Smith reprising his role as scientist Robert Neville.
“It doesn’t have a release date or anything like that. I’m not sure exactly where we’re going to be filming that one, but I’m really excited to get in front of the camera with him.,” Jordan said.”
On the topic of working with Will Smith, Jordan said: “Being somebody that I’ve looked up to for a really long time, to be able to work with Will is something I’m really looking forward to. I’m really excited.”
Little else is known of I Am Legend 2 at the time of writing, besides that it will retcon the original film’s ending, and will instead follow the alternate ending in the film’s DVD version.
Last year, the sequel’s producer and writer, Akiva Goldsmith also confirmed that the film will feature a time-jump. “This will start a few decades later than the first,” Goldsman said. “I’m obsessed with The Last of Us, where we see the world just post-apocalypse but also after a 20-30-year lapse.”
