Mickey Rourke given formal warning for homophobic language in ‘Big Brother’ house
Mickey Rourke has been issued with a formal warning for using homophobic language in the Big Brother house.
The star of Angel Heart, Sin City and The Wrestler entered the house on the latest season of Celebrity Big Brother on Monday (April 7).
He caused controversy from the kick off when he was talking to host AJ Odudu and appeared to deliberately push himself against her.
Now, he has landed himself in hot water with producers of the show, for using “offensive and unacceptable” language towards JoJo Siwa.
According to a transcript released by ITV ahead of last night’s (April 9) episode (via BBC News), Rourke asked Siwa if she liked boys or girls. She replied: “Girls. My partner is non-binary.”

He then told her: “If I stay longer than four days, you won’t be gay any more,” before she responded: “I can guarantee I’ll still be gay and I’ll still be in a very happy relationship.”
Rourke then made a comment about voting her out saying he’s “going to vote the lesbian out real quick” which Siwa overheard and replied: “That’s homophobic, if that was your reasoning.”
He was then called into the diary room, where Big Brother told him his “language was offensive and unacceptable” and “further language or behaviour of this nature could lead to you being removed from the Big Brother house.”
In response, Rourke said: “I apologise. I don’t have dishonourable intentions – I’m just talking smack, you know. I wasn’t taking it all so serious. I didn’t mean in it any bad intentions and if I did, sorry.”
After going back into the main house, TV personality Chris Hughes told him Siwa “was very upset earlier”, and informed Rourke it was “not an acceptable word”.
He told Siwa: “I want to apologise. I’ve got a habit of having a short fuse. And I don’t mean nothing by it. I do mean it [sorry]. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t say it to you.”
Siwa then said: “I appreciate your apology.”
This season of Celebrity Big Brother is due to run for 19 days and will conclude on Friday April 25.
