Mike Myers leaves door open for ‘Austin Powers 4’
Mike Myers has teased the possibility of a fourth Austin Powers movie.
More than 20 years since the release of the spy comedy series’ third instalment, 2002’s Goldmember, its creator and star has weighed in on a possible fourth film.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala in Hollywood on Saturday (May 27), Myers shared that there were “absolutely” more stories to be told in the Austin Powers Universe.
The Canadian-British actor remained vague when asked about the speculation surrounding a fourth film, saying: “I can neither confirm nor deny the existence or non-existence of such a project.”
It’s not the first time the Shrek star has addressed the rumours. In 2022, he gave an almost identical answer when asked about a fourth film, calling his response “a non-confirmed confirmation confirmation.”
Back in 2019, he said to ET that any sequel would be “likely to be from Dr. Evil’s point of view.”
Giving a similar answer to his recent response, the Wayne’s World star said: “It’s likely to be from Dr. Evil’s point of view. But again I can neither confirm nor deny such existence. That’s all I’m going to say.”
He also spoke about the rumours in 2018, sharing that the project of a fourth movie was, at the time, “looking good”.
He shared that having three young children had made it more difficult to write, but confirmed: “Well, you’re gonna see Dr. Evil soon, somewhere in the culture.”
He elaborated: “I can’t say. But it’s, you know, maybe. It’s a very strong maybe. We’ll see.”
“I would love to,” he added. “I’ve had three kids in the last six years and that’s sort of been where my focus has been. But, you know, I love doing all the characters and it’s a non-stop party when we’re shooting. It’s fun.”
Myers’ attendance at the event made for a relatively rare public appearance for the actor, who was seen sporting a new look.
