‘Monster Hunter Wilds’ players are saying it’s too easy: “I don’t even have to try”
Monster Hunter Wilds was released on Friday (February 28) but a number of players are already complaining the game is too easy.
Monster Hunter Wilds is the long-awaited follow-up to breakout hit World, which transformed the Monster Hunter series from niche fan-favourite to global phenomenon. Wilds looks set to continue that success with the game already one of the most popular titles to ever launch on Steam, racking up more than a million concurrent players over the weekend.
But despite that huge launch, a number of players are complaining that Monster Hunter Wilds is too easy due to new features like Focus Mode and the Palico armour, which make defeating intimidating monsters a far easier challenge.
“Monster Hunter Wilds is too easy in the start here. I am rusty, and not having trouble at all finishing hunts,” one fan wrote on X. “Monster Hunter Wilds beat in 11 hrs. Probably could’ve done it in nine. Main story was cool but honestly too easy,” said another while a number of posts on Reddit also complain about how easy the game is.
“There is a difference between the game being easy because I’m playing well, and the game being so easy that I don’t have to play well. So far this appears to be the second,” explained one fan. “It takes me more time to get into a hunt with my friend than actually fighting the monster. It’s fucking stupid,” said another.
However other fans have defended Monster Hunter Wilds’ difficulty. “This game feels easier than World and Rise. Hunts are over faster and I’m failing less but its for all the right reasons. The fights don’t seem dull, the grind is easier and I prefer that,” offered one fan. “You are also failing less than you did in World and Rise because you played World and Rise,” replied another.
“Leave your Palico at Camp and don’t use the Seikret recovery when you are down. Without these two things, I’ve had a really fun, somewhat challenging time so far. I’m sure with updates and eventually the expansion, we will get a challange,” wrote one hopeful fan
Responding to the complaints, developers have promised “a new level of challenge” with the first update for Monster Hunter Wilds. “Prepare your gear, and resolve, hunters! TU1 will bring with it a monster of formidable strength at a level above Tempered! Another challenging monster will also await you,” they wrote in a blog update. The update is due out in April. “This will give hunters enough time to prepare for the new content, and challenges, that await them!”
In other news, paleontologist Dr. Darren Naish has said he’s “super impressed” by how realistic the Monster Hunter games are.
