Muse’s Matt Bellamy and Elle Evans welcome second child together – named after his rockstar father
Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has welcomed his second child with partner Elle Evans, and revealed that he has named him after his famous father.
The singer, songwriter and guitarist revealed the news that his son had been born on America’s Mother’s Day earlier this month in a new post on Instagram.
Shared yesterday (May 20), the update saw him and his partner share a number of photos of the newborn, as well as a heartwarming photo of their three-year-old daughter Lovella and Matt’s 12-year-old son Bingham holding the baby.
The couple also used the post to reveal the name of their son as George – a name which they explained was inspired by Bellamy’s rockstar father.
“We are so pleased to announce the arrival of our new baby angel boy… George Julien-Wade Bellamy,” Evans wrote in the caption.
“Born on Sunday May 12, 2024. The most special blessing born on Mother’s Day & what would’ve been my late Mother’s 60th birthday. Named after Matt’s Dad George, my Mom Julie, and my cowboy dad Billy Wade Evans. He arrived healthy, happy, and handsome as ever!!!”
Bellamy’s father, George Bellamy, found fame during the early ‘60s as the rhythm guitarist of pop band The Tornados. Not only did the band find fame throughout the decade, but they also became the first English band to have a Number One single in the US Charts thanks to their famous hit ‘Telstar’.
Released back in 1962, the track remains their most famous song, and reached the Number Four position in the UK singles chart. Although they disbanded at the end of the decade, they did reform as The New Tornados in the early ‘70s, and acted as the backing group for Marty Wilde, Billy Fury and more.
“Elle and Matt. Well done both of you on producing a beautiful baby and extending both our families with a son, no less,” wrote George Bellamy in the comment section. “I feel very proud that you gave him my name, and those of Elles mum and dad I’m absolutely delighted and love you all loads.”
Elsewhere in the post, Matt Bellamy’s partner told her followers that she was “recovering well” and they were both basking in a “heavenly bliss” with the newborn.
“So grateful to my wonderfully perfect husband @mattbellamy for being so supportive & by my side every step of the way! It’s an honour to bring another brilliant Bellamy into existence,” she wrote, ending the post.
The two began dating in 2015, and tied the knot in 2019.
In other Matt Bellamy news, the Muse frontman recently recorded a score for an Audible version of 1984, and shared behind-the-scenes images of the process.
It was done for a new audio thriller based on George Orwell’s dystopian classic, which was shared on April 4 – exactly 40 years after the date of the protagonist’s first diary entry.
It also comes after Bellamy claimed in 2009 that Muse cited 1984 as a major influence for the creation of their fifth album ‘The Resistance’, and then compared Trump’s America to 1984 back in 2017.
As for Muse, the band wrapped up their string of UK live shows in the latter half of 2023, and made headlines after Bellamy smashed his guitar and gifted it to a fan at the gig in London.
